Weather and Temperature Installation

Asphalt Anchors can be installed in rain, heat, and cold within the limits of the selected adhesive. This page covers installation. For how hot pavement affects an anchor that is already in service, see High Pavement Temperature and Anchor Capacity.

Rain and Wet Conditions

EPX3 can be used in wet conditions and standing water.

EPX2 must be installed in dry conditions. Although EPX2 is waterproof once it hardens, water can dilute the cement as it is poured into the hole. This can be caused by standing water, rain, or a high water table. If you cannot fully dry the hole, use EPX3 instead.

Cold Temperatures

EPX2 uses water in the mix. Below 50°F ambient temperature, use warm mixing water and dispense the mixture into the hole promptly. Do not install EPX2 below 40°F.

EPX3 can be installed when the pavement and air are as cold as 14°F, as long as the adhesive itself is warm. The cartridge is what has to be warm, not the pavement:

• Warm the cartridge to 70°F before use, for example by keeping it in a heated vehicle or building until you need it.
• Keep it warm between holes, and dispense it promptly.
• If the adhesive itself drops below freezing before it starts curing, it will not cure.

Once the adhesive is in the hole and curing has started, the reaction generates its own heat and can keep going on cold pavement. Cure time is longer in the cold: about 1 hour, compared with about 10 minutes in hot weather.

Hot Temperatures

Warm weather significantly speeds up the curing of all our adhesives. To preserve sufficient working time, keep the adhesive shaded and cool. For EPX2, place the mixing container in ice water. Keep EPX3 cartridges in a cooler or refrigerator until use.
